  Biography

Aviation has been an integral part of Doug Nielson's life, from growing up the son of an airline pilot, to jobs as an aircraft mechanic for Eastern Airlines, Midway Airlines and American Airlines. Doug also flew as a professional flight engineer on Boeing 727 for three years for Key Air, an international charter airline.

His background and hands-on work with airplanes has given him a thorough knowledge of his subjects. He specializes in commercial aircraft, and has provided paintings for airlines, ad agencies, model box art, book covers and many private collections. Doug paints in oils, hand drawing the aircraft for complete originality. Each image is based on dozens of photos and technical drawings to ensure a high degree of technical detail and accuracy.

Doug is a trustee and life member of the ASAA (American Society of Aviation Artist), an active member of the US Air Force Art Program, and advisor for the Poplar Grove Wings and Wheels Museum. Doug, his wife and three children currently live in a fly-in community in Poplar Grove, IL, where they live a full aviation life every day.

Doug has recently provided 12 paintings for the 2002 year Airliner Art Calendar for Air Transport World. This calendar is available from their web site at www.atwonline.com
